The Lyceum (Líceum)
Let's start our sightseeing walk in Eszterházy tér (Eszterházy Square). The impressive building of the Lyceum, built in late Baroque style, can be found here. The building, presently housing the college, was built at the end of the 18th century, by Count Eszterházy Károly, for the purposes of a university. The nationally famous diocesan library, which can be seen on the first floor of the building, preserves several old codices, manuscripts, and the only original letter by Mozart to be found in Hungary. The Astronomical Museum and the "Specula" periscope operating in the tower of the building are also unique.
